Travel Tips Part 2: Emergency Kit

When you’re traveling with kids, you know the unexpected is almost always bound to happen. I’m not big on surprises (the unpleasant ones anyway) That‘s why I like to be prepared, especially on road trips.

Besides the typical bandaids and Tylenol, I also pack some other first aid items and have them handy in case they are needed while in route. My husband thinks I’m hilarious being ultra prepared, but kids are clumsy and you don’t want to be driving all over to find first aid items in a place you’re not familiar with. They don’t take up much room and it’s well worth not having the added stress of NOT having it.

First Aid

1. Tylenol

2. Benadryl- You never know when someone could have an allergic reaction, adults included. My step-dad actually had a severe allergic reaction to shellfish one year we were on vacation after having it his whole life! You can develop an allergy at any time!

3. Band-aids

4. Disposable Ice Pack- These are the kind that get cold when you shake them so they travel well.

5.Foaming disinfectant- I love this stuff because it’s kid friendly. It doesn’t burn and disinfects immediately.

6. Wipes- I mean, you will have this anyway, duh!

Accident Bucket

1. Sand bucket- If you’re going to the beach you will be packing it anyway. I have friends whose kids get car sick. Even though mine doesn’t, it can hit them at any time. If they can tell you fast enough, they can get sick in the bucket 🤢

2. Old towel- For a big accident.

3.Roll of paper towels- Obvious reasons and it’s nice to have for lunch messes too.

4. Gallon ziplock bag with a change of clothes- If an accident occurs, you have extra clothes and a place to put the soiled clothes.

5. Grocery bags- For any trash.

6. Puppy Pads- Yep. That’s what I said...puppy pads. Line your child’s car seat with one in case of an accident, especially if they are newly potty trained. I also take one to put between the sheets and mattress when we get there. Most places don’t use water proof mattress covers.

Now that you’re prepared, you can travel with a little more peace of mind. Happy traveling!!!🏖
