DIY Mobile

When I was decorating for Brooklyn’s room, I had this image in my mind what I wanted her mobile to look like. I searched and searched for the perfect mobile. I couldn’t find anything even close to what I wanted!! So, I decided I would take a creative leap of faith and make my own! I enjoyed making this mobile so much and it was so much easier to create than I thought it would be!! If I can create this, so can you!😉 Here‘s how:

Materials Needed:

embroidery hoop

2-3 sets of silk flowers (alternating sizes and colors work best)

fishing line

spool of ribbon (I used white satin)

cup hook

safety pin

hot glue gun

1. Start by taking the embroidery hoop‘s outer ring off (the part with the screw). You won’t need this.

2. Cut your flower arrangements apart into small groups and cut the ends of the stems off if very long.

3. Arrange your flowers around the hoop on a table to get an idea of the layout before glueing. You can then cut more of the stems off if necessary. Overlap the flowers so that the buds are lying on top of the stem next to it. Alternate your colors and sizes to make it more interesting and symmetric all the way around. You can play with this until you get the look you want.

4. Glue your flowers to the outside of the hoop in the order you placed them.

5. Cut your ribbon into 3 equal lengths. Glue them to the INSIDE of the hoop in 3 equal spaces. You can adjust the length if you find it’s too long. CUT LONG then adjust.

6. Cut fishing line into 4 UNEQUAL lengths and tie to the embroidery hoop in 4 equal distances around the hoop. No need to measure. Just eyeball it. This is going to be for your floating flowers.

7. Pop the flower buds off their stems. They should pop off easily.

8. String several buds onto each line. At this point I actually hung my hoop up on a chair to see how they would hang.

9. Once they are threaded on, place I bead of glue right under each bud working your way down the fishing line. Like this....

Glue them at different lengths so they appear to float. If they are at the same height it won’t have that floating feel.

10. Once all the buds are secured by a drop of glue cut any remaining fishing line sticking out of the bottom. You should only see a flower bud at the bottom, not any line.

11. Use the safety pin to pin the very top of the ribbons together. I did this so I can adjust it as she grows and I can raise it up if needed. Trust me, you won’t see the pin😉

12. Hang the safety pin onto your cup hook from the ceiling where you want it over the crib.

Voila!!! Now you have a beautiful mobile that gives your baby’s room a personal touch!💕
