Family Command Center

We have less than three weeks until school, and we are about to hit the ground running! I have really enjoyed the extra time this summer with my girls! We have done so many fun things and spent time with friends that we don’t see much during the school year, but I’m definitely ready to get back to a routine even if it IS super crazy!

Some hear the word “routine” and cringe. There are so many after school activities, school functions and appointments to keep track. The week can really fill up fast with things we need to do and places we need to go, so to keep us all straight I created a family command center.

This is where we put everything we need throughout the week: important dates, papers and references. It doesn’t make us less busy but it does keep us from feeling frazzled. It just keeps our personal and social lives in order.

I keep a family calendar where I write down all appointments, practice schedules, days off at school, etc. As soon as I get a date and time for anything I write it down here. That way we can quickly look at the month and see where each other is going to be. It cuts down on confusion so much!

I use the the magnetic board to hang important events or papers like birthday invitations, school events and charity drives with important details.

I also have a large bin for Audrey’s school papers and folders. The other is for Shawn and I with important papers we reference frequently like our budget and projects.

The other baskets are for things like bills to be paid, outgoing mail, extra keys and coupons (all in separate baskets). This is just to keep things where we can quickly find them as we are coming and going. It acts as an organized catch all, so we don’t get all that clutter on our counters.

Obviously not everyone has a large wall like this to work with, but you can easily do something similar on the inside of a pantry or closet door. Just having a central location for all of these things has helped us tremendously, especially those times that Shawn and I don’t have much time to communicate. We can just look at our command center and know what’s going on. It’s so simple but has made a huge difference!💕
