Immunity Boosters

I remember when I was in college there was a guy whom every time his roommate would so much as sneeze he would pack up his vitamins in a little caddy and find residence elsewhere until he knew all was clear. I thought it was the funniest thing!! It wasn’t until I had kids that I became a huge germaphobe. I swear they come down with illnesses I’ve never even heard of!! I have come quite versed in the world of natural immunity boosters in the past years making sure we keep the sickness to a minimum. Obviously there are times when it’s unavoidable. You can’t keep from ever getting sick again, but you can definitely ward off many illnesses or at the very least shorten the duration and severity of it.

It‘s funny because I was working on this blog post right before Audrey got sick. Oh the irony!!! That just means we are going into intensive doses with these natural remedies now! These remedies have never failed me in helping us to heal quicker. 😊

Here are some things we do as a preventative:

Fruits and Veggies:

So this may be a no brainer, but it’s surprising how very little we tend to get in our diet. Children (under 5) should get at least 5 servings and everyone else should get 10. Think super foods: citrus, leafy greens and apples to name a few.

They say, “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” Well there’s a lot of truth to that!! Apples are full of antioxidants like many fruits and vegetables and help ward of illness. Not to mention all the other health benefits you get from fresh fruits and veggies, but that’s another post for another time. 😉

Elderberry:

This is a natural berry that they have been able to cook down into a syrup and packaged for consumer use. *It also comes in gummy and capsule form* I would never have believed this miracle berry worked if I hadn‘t seen it work time and time again. There have been several times when I start feeling tired and my throat starts hurting just knowing something bad is about to go down. I take the intensive dose when I start feeling like this and within a day or two I’m feeling myself again!

Thieves Essential Oil:

This is a blend of different essential oils to help ward off illness and to help heal. This oil was used by robbers when robbing the sick during the Bubonic plague!! Isn’t that crazy?!

We use this with a carrier oil to put on the bottoms of our feet during flu season. You can also gargle with it to help a sore throat.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Take a shot several times a day to boost your immunity. It, just like an apple, has tons of antioxidants!

Spices:

Thats right! It’s not just for tasty meals, it’s for immune support as well! Some of the best spices for this are cinnamon, garlic and turmeric. These are spices that you can easily add to your meals. Now you know why there are so many fall and winter recipes that contain cinnamon!

Cayenne pepper and honey are great for congestion and relieving coughing. Try golden milk when you have a cold. It’s a concoction of milk, ginger, honey, turmeric and black pepper.

Alcohol and Sugar:

Ok, so this is a what-not-to-do. Did you know that sugar and alcohol lower your immune system? Feeling a little draggy? Take a break from that glass of wine with dinner until you gain your energy back. It will make a huge difference in your recovery.

There are other immunity boosters out there but this is a good place to start!! Try to incorporate these things into your every day and then up these remedies when you start coming down with something.

⚠️ Please note that some of these things should NOT be given to infants and small children. Always check safety guidelines before dosing and use the proper amounts and carrier oils with essential oils. These are all great resources but if not used properly can be harmful. ⚠️

Ooooh great tips!! I had no idea ginger and apples were so good at fighting illness! I love both of them! Also I’m going to lay off the sweets ASAP because you betcha I’ve been eating them daily but I have to get over this cold ASAP! Going to try to eat as much natural sweets as possible (aka fruits!)

Thanks so much for this helpful post!❤️🙏🏼
