We always look at grocery shopping as a daunting task. Out of all the errands and chores we have I think it’s the most dreaded. I will be honest, I actually like grocery shopping. I like seeing what’s new and picking out different ingredients to make a new recipe, but with a toddler it has stopped being a leisurely stroll through the aisles. That is why I have come to love ClickList. I can do all my shopping from home and never have to get anyone out of the car! I have found that it actually saves me a ton in coupons and impulse buys!!
Before we start shopping I want to share how I organize my list. Many of my friends have said they don’t like doing ClickList because they‘re never prepared with a grocery list ahead of time.
I have two lists on my phone (Menu and Grocery). This is how I have a completed list at the end of the week:
1. As I see a recipe I like I screen shot it or bookmark it and add it to my menu.
2. I add the ingredients to my grocery list on my phone.
3. As I run out of things I add them to my list. Use Siri!!! I tell Siri to add things all the time, because its so fast and you can do it in the car. 4. If you use Pinterest have a ”Family Favorites” board. I go to this when I’m out of ideas and don’t want to think about the meals I will cook.
Now that you have your menu and grocery list let’s start shopping and saving!
Once you have the Kroger app downloaded and your Kroger card linked (the app will walk you through doing this) you can start shopping. The great thing is everything is linked to your card. The very first page that pulls up has all your frequently purchased items. This makes it super easy to throw the things you always get into your cart.
The second tab “My Sale Items” will show you all the products that are on sale you have purchased in the last month. It takes all the guess work out of figuring out what’s on sale.
I always check this tab to get the best deals on products we love.
You obviously can click on the “coupon” tab on the bottom of the screen. It will pull up all available coupons. *Tip: it will only let you load a maximum number of coupons. It’s quite a few that it allows but you can’t just click on all of them. When you click on a coupon you can click on “qualifying products“ to see what is included and then add it to your cart from there.
If you are a big “Buy 5 Save $5” shopper like me I’ve learned you have to look at your Weekly Ad to see what items are included. It will not tell you as you load items to your cart. I just keep a tally of those items as I add them. You can look at your Weekly Ad here:
Here is a tip if you didn’t already know it. You HAVE to buy 5 items to save $5. You can buy as many items you want but only in increments of 5 (or whatever the deal is). So say you get 6 items, the 6th item will be full price. Other coupons like “10 for $10” or “Buy One Get One Free“ you can just buy one item to get the deal.
This is what I love most about the app; as you add items to your cart it will show you if you have a coupon loaded or if there is a coupon available. You can add the coupon right there in your cart, and it will also tell you what qualifies (if you need to buy 2 items). It will tell you how many times you can use it as well. Sometimes you can use that same coupon up to 5 times in one transaction. Go ahead and get 5 of those items if you will use them!😊
This makes it so easy to not only get your items on sale but also use coupons on those items for major savings!!! I‘ve even gotten things completely free by doing this!!
Lastly, once you check out and select a time and day for pickup, it will show you your list and under item it will have a section for “Special Instructions”. This is super handy for things like of you want green bananas or your ham sliced on a number 2. I have a friend who prefers her bacon from the butcher. You can actually put any bacon in your cart and in that section type “instead I would like 1lb thick cut from the butcher”. It’s that easy!
At this time it will also ask if you allow substitutions. I almost always allow them. I’ll tell you why. If they don’t have that item they will either substitute it for a more expensive brand or a bigger size for the same price!! I can’t tell you how many times I have received a much better item and paid nothing more for it!
A common complaint about substitutions is that they don’t like the item they received for the substitution. Here’s a trick with that: in ”Special Instructions” you can tell them what you prefer as a sub. You can say things like “if this is not available any multigrain bread is ok” or “if you don’t have turkey I will take ham”.
Shew that was a lot of information!! I hope you hung in there for all of it. I promise once you shop this way a few times you will find it’s super easy and saves a ton of time and money!!!
Let‘s go Krogering!!!😉💕
