Taking Time for a Healthy Mind


You know that feeling when your body aches from head to toe from physical and mental exhaustion (those with toddlers definitely know what I’m talking about). I sit down at the end of the day to feed Brooklyn and put her to sleep, and when she’s still and relaxed I reflect on my day. It’s the one time of day when all is still and quiet.

Do you remember that mindful meditation I talked about a few months ago? This is when I love doing it. If you missed it, just look under the ”ZEN” category 😊.

I start to thank God for the feeling of the achiness I’m feeling. Crazy I know, but if I’m really feeling it then that means my day has slowed down and I can be more in tune with my body. I then think of all the highlights of the day that I’m thankful for. Even on the hardest of days there are highlights. You may have to stop and really reflect on those if it’s been extra hard, but it’s there!! I promise!!!

Things like: The girls played really well together while I fixed dinner, I loved seeing Audrey’s smile when I picked her up from school or Shawn made it to work safely despite the rain. These are all small wins of the day, but when you start to focus on the highlights the rest doesn’t seem as daunting.

It’s easy to get into the trap of dwelling on all that went wrong. I think that’s just our way of trying to perfect ourselves to become the best parents we want to be. Besides the fact that adulting, let alone motherhood, is HARD!!! It’s totally normal!!! We just can’t hang out there too long and get sucked into the dark pit of negativity.

Meditation is like vitamins for the soul and mind!!! Without rejuventaing your spirit, it becomes weak and unhealthy. When you take a little zen time to meditate and focus on the good of the day, you remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and your purpose in life. We are all SO important and have a purpose in life. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do. Let’s take a minute and rejuvenate that important person you are!!
